That was just for dramatic effect. I think you're right when you say that it's a modern way of writing. Maybe I should have put more backstory into it, but like I say, if I decide to elaborate on it then those questions would be answered and the reader would hopefully understand.

And I don't tend to write in a more classical way. I tend to prefer it if things get straight into the action, but that's just a personal preference. :)

Thanks for replying and pointing things out to me all the same though. I think you have a point and I will certainly take what you've said and use it in some way.
