I've looked for other movies like my idea, but....

The simple plot info of my story is:

Two people find out that they live on top of a lost city. The military and raiders are closing in as these two people enter the underground city, they get seperated, have to say alive and avoid the military and raiders.  Middle and then the end, detail don't really matter...

Here is my problem:

I know there is a 'lost world' genre, but my lost city is 98% lifeless.

What movies/novel do you think of that would be great "research" for me

thanks

There are a lot of really old movies with a kind of 'ghost city' theme. I can't think of many novels/movies, but there is A LOT of non-fiction on the subject. Chernobyl, Kadykchan, Beichuan,Prypiat, are all good examples of abandoned cities. Everything about Pompeii has that haunted feeling that you look for in a ghost-city-novel.
Hope I helped.

Were I you, rather than hunt down fiction books, go hunting through the archeology section of your library or bookstore and find something that catches your fancy. Specifically things on discovery and excavation of ruins. Depending on what your setting is like, I'd go with either ancient Roman and Middle Ages excavations (if more urban or pastoral) or Central American and Indian subcontinent if you want something more jungle-y.

As for movies to refer to... Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade might be a good pick, but You'd be better off doing some actual research into digs and the hazards of ruins.

When I read lost-cities, Castle in the Sky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_in_the_Sky) came to my mind...though I don't know how much that applies to you.

There is also Quest for the Lost Civilization...an old tv series. But I think your best bet will be Discovery Channel documentaries on Ancient civilization.

I also do have a question: how do they live on top of a lost city and not know? Is it all covered so no one noticed until now? Just curious, in terms of a plot holes.
