Even More Questions

This'll be real quick and short.

Which would be the correct way?

I was a ten-year-old.

or:

I was a ten year old.

I think I've seen this done both ways and I don't know which way is grammatically correct.

And then,

Is it blonde or blond? I've also seen both before. What's the difference? If there isn't any which one should I use in my writing?

All answers welcome! Thanks in advanced!

I've usually written "ten year-old". As to "blonde" or "blond", it's up for grabs. Go with what looks right to you.

RE: blonde or blond

copied this straight from Merriam-Webster dictionary (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/blonde?show=4&t=1284341862):

spelled blond when used of a boy or man and often blonde when used of a girl or woman

Actually I wouldn't say either. Depending on the context of the whole paragraph, I would be more inclinded to say.

When I was ten years old. (no hyphens needed)

My understanding of the whole blond vs blonde issue is hair is "blond" but a woman is "a blonde."

In the same way that if a woman's hair is brown, she is a brunette.

I've always said "blonde." I think "blond" just looks weird. And until this point, I wasn't aware "brunet" was a word. XD I thought it was just "brunette." I'll be honest, I always figured it was like "theater" and "theatre"... just a different way of spelling the same word.
As for ten-year-old...I put hyphens, but that's just me. It's gramatically correct either way, though, I agree with Ruby; I'd go with "When I was ten years old" or something along those lines.
