*taps mic*

I scoured the community userinfo for some guidelines on how I ought to write up an introductory post, didn't see anything, and decided just to get right to it. If I've bungled it up somehow just fuss at me and I'll either fix it or go weep in a corner.

Hello! I'm one of many aspiring high fantasy authors hunting for an existing writer's circle to squeeze my way into. The project I've been working on for the past few months consumes my thoughts completely, but I'm so easily bogged down by doubt and indecision that of the ~17k I've got now, I'm happy with maybe ~4k of it. Maybe that's normal. That's probably normal, right? Right? Help I am drowning in je ne sais quoi.

Anyway, if you've got a discerning eye for fantasy fiction, I'd like to talk to you more and hopefully offer some constructive criticism of my own if you've got work to share.

Yes, the doubt and indecision are completely normal. Not pleasant, LOL, but normal.

Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] writers_loft.

At least among everyone I know who writes, being happy with that much of your work is pretty darn normal. It's a sign, I think, that you know enough to see problems in your own writing and care about its quality. :)

I often write semi-fantastical settings with big dollops of sci-fi and ridiculous things happening everywhere, so maybe that counts? Anyway I'm always looking for more writers to talk to and exchange writerly glee with so I'd be happy to offer opinions and be your cheerleader and point out silly metaphors. :3 Ifyoulike.

Also, your icon made me giggle like a child.

Huzzah for struggling fantasy authors! And it seems from your user info that we have some similar interests too.

I certainly agree with those above about the doubt. The important thing is to get it out and build upon the parts you like. (Though I'm struggling with the less-fun editing stage now myself.) Feedback and knowing that you're not alone is a lifesaver!

Friending?

Wanna share high fantasy?
I don't have much myself but i love to read it, and i've been told that often the bits you're unhappy with are the bits other people like.
If you still want an opinion i'm here :)

You did just fine with your intro post. Welcome! *waves* There aren't any particular guidelines for intro posts, people can do them or not, it's all good. :-)

There are a bunch of us here who write and read high fantasy.

Congrats on the 17k! Yes, the indecision is normal. Sometimes you just have to press through it to see what sticks and then learn that the things that don't work can be fixed later if necessary.

High fantasy is one of my favorite genres to read, and one that I am currently dabbling in as a writer. Would love to check out your work - mind if I add you?
