My sister sent me a copy of A Novel In A Year, by Louise Doughty for my birthday, and it's a truly excellent book, from what I've read so far. I read about eight weeks ahead of myself without realising on the night that I got it. I was hooked. It gives such honest and personal accounts and advice, and is just so interesting to read! Every other chapter gives a writing exercise, and so I've been giving them a shot. Challenging, as they are out of my comfort zone, but I feel I'm learning so much because of that.

( Read the first exercise... )

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
