“Stop!” Rhian flung herself out of her dream, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and checked the clock:
“Not again,” Rhian breathed.
She stood from her bed and walked over to the bathroom and started the sink. She looked in the mirror and then placed her hands under the icy water and splashed it onto her face. Rhian brushed her red shoulder length hair into two small ponytails. She gazed into the mirror again, her apricot cinnamon chai tea colored skin was evenly toned but she had dark circles under her eyes. Rhian rummaged through her makeup drawer and took out her concealer. Empty.
“Great I’m going to look terrible today.” She said throwing the empty concealer bottle into the trash can and shuffled back to her room to put her uniform on.
“Rhian, Umeko and Nauda are here!” Rhian’s mother’s voice called to her through her door. Rhian pulled her uniform on and pulled one sneaker on.
“My shoe, my shoe!” Rhian looked around franticly for her missing shoe and in the process banged her head against the night stand. “Ow,” Rhian moaned rubbing her head, “today is not my day.” She stood and looked around the room once more, with and no site of the shoe she left the room.
“I have one of your shoes but-” Her mother was holding Rhian’s missing shoe and stopped mid sentence when she saw that Rhian was wearing the other one. “Have a nice day at school,” she kissed the top of Rhian’s head and pushed her out the door.
Rhian looked at her two best friends, one of them being her boyfriend, and was instantly jealous. Umeko’s hair hung perfectly below her waist and was a glowing silver, her droopy seafoam blue eyes stared blankly at a hand held video game she was playing- always playing. Umeko was taller than Rhian by an inch and was over protective of Rhian to say the least. Rhian was lucky enough to be dating Nauda, considering Umeko scared off every other guy who had tried toeven talk to her. Part of this may be because they had all known each other since they were in grade school, but all the same, Rhian was lucky. Nauda coffee-colored hair was spiked to the side today and his dark bowenite eyes were off day-dreaming.
“You skirt is on backwards.” Umeko took one hand away from her video game and pointed at Rhian’s skirt.
“What? No!” Rhian looked down at her skirt to see that it was indeed backwards.
“Not you day?” Nauda looked at Rhian, holding back a laugh.
“It’s not funny!” Rhian turned her skirt around and sighed. Nauda swung his arm around her shoulders and laughed. “Your right it’s not,” he laughed again, “did you even sleep last night?”
“Yes, I did,” Rhian elbowed Nauda in the stomach lightly, “just shut up about how I look today.”
“You look fine Rhian, no worries, right Umeko?” Nauda looked at Umeko who was consumed with her video game. Umeko looked Rhian up and down for no less than a second and then looked at her game again. “Fine.”
“Now class we are having two new students today, welcome them with open arms!” Mr. Kiuho announced to the class. Rhian looked up from the class work she was doing to watch Mr. Kiuho.
Nauda- who sat behind her- leaned forward and whispered in Rhian’s ear, “Coming in the middle of the year, that’s weird.”
Mr. Kiuho cleared his throat and glared at Nauda, Nauda leaned back into his seat. “Say hello to Jace and Misty.” Mr. Kiuho motioned for everyone to look at the door. When it opened two people walked into the middle of the classroom. One, the girl, had chest-length white hair, and the other, the boy, had black that was spiked up in every direction possible. They looked similar, there skin was a pale cream color, and there eyes were crimson, and were almost the same height, the boy was only slightly taller .
“I’m Jace.”
“Misty.”
