So this piece magically wedged its little self into my head while
I was doing what I call "scrap writing". Scrap writing is just something
that I do when I am kind of lost with no inspiration. Basically I just start
writing, and I usually get an idea of what to write by listening to music.
I write some random poem, that is not that good, which sprouts an idea
for another. I write from there and just keep doing it until I have something
that works.
I wrote about two poems and then came up with this one. I knew it was
the one the minute I wrote the first word down.
I AM A WRITER.
I am no artist
I am a writer
I do not paint a picture
I write a story
I do not visualize
I create
I do not use two hands
I use one
I do not concentrate
I let my mind wonder round
My work does not inspire
My work opens up a whole new world
I do not carry a box with my tools in it
I carry my mind
I do not see
I hear; I listen
I do not work;
For I am no artist
I make fantasy as real as your dreams;
For I am the artist.
Essentially it is about how I was trying to draw some sorry drawings, but
I am simply not a good artist. At least, not with drawing and painting. I am the artist
of writing. Writers are artists too. I wrote this to distinguish the difference between
being an artist with pictures and paintings and being an artist with words.
Art is never boring, but for someone like me who simply
does not have the talent works to hard to try to be an artist. I spent hours trying
to draw a simple anorexic girl in the wind. I spent about a minute writing
that poem. It just sort of flows, and I like it to flow much better than having
to really think hard about it. So this sort of explains how I am not the artist that
has to work, I am the artist that flows.
This is sort of confusing for me to explain. But let me say just this:
The poem is about my views on drawing. It's too hard. So I am not an artist.
It is also about my views on writing. It's what I love. So I am the artist of writing.
Well, I hope you get it, cause if I keep trying to explain I'll get myself all confused.
Best wishes :)
