You can post your answers here or in your own journal. If you are posting these Building exercises in your own journal, please include a link or notation back to

As always, you don't have to answer the questions, they are simply a tool to inspire, trigger ideas or just make you think about your characterizations and the world around your story.
World Building 3
Factions and Power Struggles
1. What style of government does your key country have? (monarchy, matriarchy, democracy, anarchy...)
2. Is the government stable?
3. Does religion have a major presence in this country?
4. What style of religion is it?
5. Are there guilds that have great presence in this country?
6. Are the nobles, merchants and wealthy sorts content with the current government?
7. Are there any other factions in competition or in power struggles with the government?
8. If there are factions, how many factions are there? Who is allied with whom?
9. Do the power struggles reach beyond the country's borders?
10. Do the power struggles weaken the government? Enough to tempt other nations to invade?
11. What would happen if the other factions took power? What would the country be like afterward?
12. What would happen if another nation invaded? What would the country be like afterward?
These things may help trigger plot ideas so if you want to discuss, ask questions, expand on or delve deeper, please do so.
