Hello all. I'm planning to publish an anthology this summer that features poems and short stories about shy people, being shy, and or having a family member or friend who's shy. My purpose is to teach readers about Avoidant Personality Disorder (also known as extreme shyness) and to show that people who are shy aren't stuck-up or antisocial.
Your piece can be from any genre. As long as it's about being shy or knowing someone who is.
ABOUT AVOIDANT PERSONALITY DISORDER:
Avoidant Personality Disorder is a case of extreme shyness in which the individual is afraid to approach/talk to others for fear of ridicule and or rejection.
There are some individuals who are shy (normal) for a period of time in their lives (moving to a new place, being in a new crowd, etc.). And then there are some individuals whose shyness becomes persistant and at times disturbing toward others (at this point, it becomes abnormal). It can lead to loneliness, unemployment, depression, and even suicide.
-- This disorder is not to be confused with Schizoid or Antisocial Personality Disorder. --
This disorder can be caused by a frequent change of location and or being ridiculed/rejected during childhood. People with this disorder have at least a few close friends (they most likely cling on to them more to people they don't know). Some choose to be lonely in order to avoid the pain of rejection.
